I think any date before 25th March would be fine. I think we shoul go between 10-17 March. Can you let me have the names so far so I can get travel agent to start working on package and price. i think you did saay that a MAS 4 days 3 night is around RM1300. I think it is  reasonable but we got to be careful of the hotel and single occupancy supplement.
Guandong just had its first SAR case today so we have to monitor this also.
(Reply: that was as at the offer period then)

from Khing:
I have asked for the return fare direct from  from Penang - Xiamen and it is around RM1,200. There are also excursion fares for 5 days Pg- Xiamen return. Other combinations of itinerary can be aranged but at varying fares.
Comfort Holidays in Penang , Macalister Road specialising in Chinese Holidays.

from : Mak Kar Weng, Wenon Travels & Tours (M) Sdn. Bhd. Penang.
I was instructed by Mr. Toh Clifford to help arrange for the above trip to Xiamen. I have  blocked 30 seats with the Xiamen Airline fly from Penang to Xiamen Direct on the 22nd April 2004 ( Thursday )and return on the 25th April 2004 ( Sunday ). The seat and price is pending for confirmation from the HQ , due to Xiamen Airlinecannot be booked online yet. I am sure they will fulfill our requirement soon. I understand that some of you are Cantonese or
Teochew or Hongkong resident. The package must have one standard at first ,then with some options add on later. For those whodo not have sufficient time can join the minimum package, and others can add on with other options. There are so many activities you can add on ,as long as you have time and willing to spend a little bite more money. Please email me or phone me when you are
free.
Best regards.

From Chong Hye
Peter will continue to accumulate the name list and I will get Leng Lan, Allen Oh's wife to get the quotes early so that our friends can have an idea of the cost. One thing though, I think we can organise
Penang and Xiamen
all other side arrangements will have to be separate otherwise it becomes very susah.
Maybe a detour to HK may be possible
or to Shanghai but it must be for all otherwise cannot work

and it must be understood that the pricing maybe different. So everyone has to make up their minds as to what they want to do. Visit Heong Ha or go on HK-Xiamen-Shanghai Tour?

My suggestion if Penang-Xiamen is the cheapest than we go this route. Ground tours around Xiamen can be arranged as part of the cost or separate and leave KC to arrange. i think a 5-7 days trip would be more than enough. May even be too long. Perhaps Khai Choon can give further clarification as to the time required. For those who want to do more they should now say where they want to go and what they want to do so that Leng Lan can cost the trip for them. If we are going in April then by January/February 2004 we need to have everthing secured and confirmed. Otherwise we will not be in time. Obviously the more people the better the arrangements since it would be more cost effective and we can have better bargaining power.
Directly opposite Taiwan on the Mainland is the Hokkien Province and Xiaman is the port and harbour. Most present day Taiwanese are decendents of early immigrants from that part of Mainland China prior to World War 1 Yes, it will be better to go visit Xiaman and the surrounding area before or after the Cheng Beng period., i.e., a week before and after April 4/5. The main reason is that many of these Taiwanese will go back to the Mainland to visit their ancestral homes during this period. If the vacation system is like that in Taiwan, then schools, colleges and universties will be given a week vacation around April 4/5. A few years ago they have to travel there via Hong Kong or Macau. However, nowadays some do travel via boats across the Strait of Taiwan. ...from a supporter

By the way, MAS is offering 4 days 4 nights something like free and easy to Xiamen
for + RM1200.00... (offer in their recent 3 day fair & departing from KL. Anyway wait for more news on this.

Good to know that you are interested to visit Xiamen. You should, being a Hokkien. Have you been to Xiamen or China? Do you know which part of Fujien your ancestors come from? Most who speak the Hokkien language ( MiNam ) comes from several districts, such as Amoy ( Xiamen ) Chuan Chew (Quanzhou ), An Koay ( An Xi ), Tung Aun, Eng Chun, Huey Aun, Cheok Sai, Zhang Chew, Lung Ar, and so on. There are 4 golf courses in Xiamen. Will you consider bringing your family?... from KC Gan
................................................................................................................
On Xiamen I have written to Cheng Woh that it will be good to make the trip to include family and friends. For the benefit of those who have not travelled to China and Xiamen here are some of the attractions/ advantages.

  • It is one of the nearest point in Southern China with good sight-seeing, recreational activities and good food. And best weather during March. ( about 18 degrees C. )
  • It represents one of the largest emigrant population base of Chinese to SE Asia especially Penang. So you guys may have relatives here or nearby Xiamen.
  • If you do not speak Mandarin, Hokkien can usually get you through.
  • It will be good to bring your kids to see the homes of your ancestors, and compare the different standards of living.
  • It will be good for us to meet some of the family members of our schoolmates during the excursion. We missed this in Penang.
  • Different programmes can be drawn up for different interests. Golfing can also be arranged.
  • Our company owns the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza in Xiamen and the best rates, tour and meal arrangements can be promised.
If you have some preferred dates please let Cheng Woh or me know and we can plan. Cheng Woh is also interested to include Hong Kong on the return trip, and this can be done for those who wants to do so.
